Title: An Examination of Social Work Students’ Learning in Mental Health, Addictions, and Suicide Assessments
Research Focus: This study will explore the impact of educational modules on how Master of Social Work students learn about mental health, addictions, and suicide risk assessment. Also, this study examines how students describe their learning and competence in mental health, addiction, and suicide risk assessments after an assessment with a simulated client.
Study Design: Master of Social Work students will participate (N=27) in this study and a range of data collection tools and instruments will be utilized: Socio-demographic form; Quizzes; Surveys; Post-simulation reflection questionnaires; Feedback form, and; Focus groups.
Impact: The learning activities in this project will enhance student competence in the assessment of mental health, addictions, and suicide and prepare students more adequately for field education.
